About Lere Town

Lere town is located geographically at the latitude 10 degrees 39 North and longitude 8 degrees 57 East. It is the headquarters of the Lere Emirate. The town and its environs has an estimated population of about 93,290 (2016). The town has been the headquartres of traditional institution/authority in Lere Local Government Area from the vassalage period. The inhabitants of the town are mainly Hausa/Fulani. The relationship between the people and neighbouring chiefdoms of Kurama and Piriga who are non-Hausa/Fulani has always been peaceful except for minor instigated conflicts. Many years of socio-religious interaction have led to amicable, albeit gradual integration and assimilation of the diverse communities into an emergent culture. Land Mass of Lere Emirate

Presently Lere Emirate is bordered by Kurama and Saminaka chiefdoms in the north and east while Piriga and Tsam Chiefdoms border it in the west and south respectively. Lere Emirate also has boundary with Plateau state in the south east and Kauru Emirate in the North West. The estimated landmass area of the emirate is 95 square kilometers. Lere Emirate in its present form therefore covers an area close to 30% of the total Lere Local Government landmass of 320 square kilometers.

Population of People of Lere

The population of Lere Emirate based on data extracted from the 2006 Population Census was 90,224 and when projected to 2019 “Kaduna State Statistical tables”, the estimated population of localities within Lere Emirate is 152,763 at 3.2% growth rate (NPC approved for Kaduna state). These population estimates based on 3.2% Kaduna state growth rate are however very conservative when viewed against the massive emigration into the Emirate in recent years.
